School Progress Results Term 1

I said that I’d post my school results on the blog. The idea is that it gives me an extra incentive to do well, knowing that the entire world- including prospective employers- can see how I’m doing.

With term 1 over I shall now post my results. I’m not going to make any excuses about poor results, I’m not going to blame teachers or anything. As far as I am concerned the mark I received for any piece of assessment is the mark that I deserved.

ANCIENT HISTORY: B-
The task was to write a comparative essay on the causes of two ancient conflicts in relation to the statement by Dan Smith that all conflicts are conscious and consciously decided affairs. I chose my two conflicts to be The Peloponnesian War and Caesar’s Civil War.

ENGLISH: B
The task was to write a personal reflective piece relating to themes discussed in the novel Catcher In The Rye, under exam conditions.

FILM, TELEVISION & NEW MEDIA: A-
The task was to write a feature article about why a chosen director can be considered to meet the definition of Auteur in Auteur Theory. My chosen director was Peter Weir.

MATHS: A
It is difficult to know what grade I actually got for maths because for exams no grade is given, only the marks out of total marks. Given my marks on the mid term exams as well as the assignment it can be assumed I got an A overall. On the mid term report card I was given “Excellent”.

MULTISTRAND: NA
Officially Multistrand Science. There wasn’t any formal assessment in term 1, but according to my mid term report card I got “Good”. The first assignment is due on Tuesday.

MUSIC: B
The task was to analyze a form piece of musical theatre and present an oral presentation on it. I studied Once More With Feeling- the musical episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

There is no way of accurately knowing how well I will do on a piece of assessment until I receive the marks for it, though a broad idea can be figured based on how much effort I put in. For this reason I can’t really make a guess on how I’ll do on my next piece of assessment in each subject, but I’m fairly confident my mark for Music will go up as the next piece is composition. It will ultimately depend on how much work I do and how well prepared I am.

For people unfamiliar with the marking schema:
A: Very high achievement - Pass
B: High achievement - Pass
C: Sound achievement - Pass
D: Low achievement – Fail
E: Very low achievement – Fail.

Although term 1 is the easiest term of the year, one down is still something to celebrate. Just another 3 and I will never need to do school work ever again.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me through term 1, especially my teachers for teaching me and giving me draft feedback, my parents for not complaining when I stayed up until 3am every night for weeks at a time (and also draft feedback), and to Kaylee Gannaway for tolerating my excitement after I got my FTV result.
